ANNOUNCING
THE UOIT RIDGEBACKS MEN'S HOCKEY SCHEDULE FOR 2007-08!
OUA
RELEASES SCHEDULE! INAUGURAL SEASON OF UNIVERSITY HOCKEY
IS SET! RIDGEBACKS WILL OPEN AGAINST QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY
ON OCTOBER 12TH!
Oshawa
(OUA) - It is with great anticipation and excitement that
the UOIT Department of Athletics releases the official UOIT
Men's Hockey Schedule for the 2007-08 OUA Season.
This fall will be the inaugural season for UOIT as it enters
University hockey for the very first time. The Ridgebacks
have been working feverishly behind the scenes to prepare
for the inaugural University Men's Hockey season on campus.
Please find attached the official 2007-08 UOIT Men's Schedule.
The
Ridgebacks, under the guidance of veteran OUA Head Coach
- Marlin Muylaert (bio at uoitridgebacks.com), will take
to the ice on Friday, October 12th for their historic first
ever OUA game. The Ridgebacks opponents in their opening
game will be the Queen's University Golden Gaels. Puck drops
7:30pm with a gala of pre-game and post game festivities
planned.
Other
hi-lites of the first ever UOIT Hockey schedule include:
invite by Ivy League powerhouse, YALE UNIVERSITY to participate
in their annual Yale Invitational (opponents will be Princeton
and Brown) , hosting Western on November 30th, Travelling
to top ranked Lakehead on Nov. 16-17, hosting McGill on
January 18th and developing instant rivalries with new division
rivals York, Brock and Guelph (playing 3x each).
UOIT
became the 19th member of the Ontario University Athletics
Association (OUA) in January of 2006 with unanimous approval
of the OUA members. Three years of planning and hard work
have positioned the University for a positive movement into
the spotlight of the OUA and eventually the CIS. The Ridgebacks
had to wait until the next structure change year to enter
due to the mass realignment required to accept the newest
OUA member into Varsity hockey. That year is this fall.
The Ridgebacks will begin to lay claim this fall to their
own reputation against the top Universities in the province
and ultimately in Canada.
The
excitement builds as the debut of University Hockey in the
region is now set to go! History in the making!
Note:
The UOIT Women's Inaugural OUA Schedule is due out shortly.
GO RIDGEBACKS!!!
