UOIT
Welcomes Rikki Palmateer As Newest Hockey Recruit
Oshawa,
ON – Rikki Palmateer, a Cobourg resident and a determined
hockey player will be playing for the UOIT Ridgebacks women’s
hockey team in the fall. Palmateer is looking forward to
being a member of the first ever varsity Ridgebacks hockey
team and knows she can help lead the team on the ice giving
110% every shift. “I truly believe we are going to
have a very competitive squad. I have played with or against
many of the girls that are part of the team and they are
all hard working, serious and are just as competitive as
I am. I know this team will have great chemistry, and I
believe that hard work and practice will play a huge factor
in our success this coming fall.”
The
coaching staff is also excited to have Palmateer added to
the lineup. “Adding a player of Rikki’s calibre
really solidifies our strength down the middle at the centre
position; she has had tremendous success with her hockey
career thus far” said head coach Gary Pitcher. Assistant
coach Scott Barker added “with the addition of Rikki,
the women’s team is now close to concluding their
recruitment for their inaugural season. We have a lot of
pieces in place and can’t wait to get started with
our first season this fall.”
The
Ridgebacks, under the guidance of Head Coach – Gary
Pitcher (bio at uoitridgebacks.com), will take to the ice
on Saturday, September 29th for their historic first ever
OUA game. The Ridgebacks opponents in their opening game
will be the University of Western Mustangs. Puck drops 1:30pm
with a gala of pre-game and post game festivities planned.
