Athletic Therapist Named Head Athletic Therapist For The
Women’s World Lacrosse Championships
Oshawa,
ON – The Canadian National Lacrosse program has announced
that Durham College and UOIT athletic therapist Alison Chasczewski
has been named head athletic therapist for the under 19
women’s Canadian field lacrosse team this summer;
she traveled to Australia from December 26th to January
12th with the U-19 team for their first international tournament
competition and training camps in preparation for the 2007
World Cup. Chasczewski serves a valuable role full-time
with the DC-UOIT athletic department as the head athletic
therapist.
The
under 19 Women’s World Field Lacrosse Championship,
held by the International Federation of Women’s Field
Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) will be hosted at Trent University
in Peterborough at the newly revamped facilities in August
2007. The IFWLA U-19 World Championships will take place
over the course of 14 days in August 2007 and will bring
250 participants from 10 countries from around the world
plus another 250 Canadian athletes for the opening festivities
to be held at the University; participating countries include
USA, England, Japan, Australia, Wales, Scotland, Czechoslovakia,
Germany, New Zealand, and Canada.
“My
experience at the national and international level has been
incredible; it takes the meaning of “athlete”
to a whole different level. It has been an honour to work
with such a talented and extremely focused group of girls.
These young girls have dedicated themselves and made many
sacrifices to compete for their country. The whole experience
has been an incredible journey to watch their growth and
maturity as athletes and women. It makes my job extremely
rewarding knowing my work is appreciated” said Alison
Chasczewski.
The
IFWLA U-19 World Championships are held every four years;
the first was held in August 1995 in Haverford PA, the next
event was hosted in 1999 in Perth Australia, and the last
championships returned to the United States in 2003 and
were held in Towson MD. This is the first time Canada has
ever hosted the IFWLA U-19 World Championships.
