RIDGEBACKS WIN FIRST EVER OUA GAME IN FINE FASHION AT HOME!!!!!
HISTORIC FIRST EVER WIN COMES IN FRONT OF A PACKED HOUSE!!!

Oshawa (OUA) - The UOIT Ridgebacks Men's Hockey team registered their first ever OUA win tonight against the visiting University of Windsor Lancers in front of a jam packed Campus Ice Centre. The historic win for Head Coach Marlin Muylaert and the Ridgebacks knock off another benchmark for Canada's newest University hockey program. UOIT's Chris Chimienti scored the eventual historic game winner at the 4:39 mark of the secod period. Jordan Freeland scored the opening goal for the Rdgebacks while Dustin Turner added two more goals in the 2nd period.
It was an inspirational evening as fans were treated to some great OUA hockey and also the opportunity to witness history in the making! "The very first OUA win by UOIT!!!"
"This is an historical moment for UOIT men's hockey and one that the coaching staff and the player can feel proud of being a part of", stated Athletic Director Ken Babcock, "The Coaching staff and the team have worked so hard and it is great to see them get the first ever win, especially at home".
First period notes:
-Packed house at the Campus Ice Centre
-1st period had a great flow with no penalties until 11:28 into the first -Game opened with a couple of big hits -Ridgebacks passing well with many cross ice passes -Defensive blunder allowed Windsor to go in on a breakaway from centre, Sturrock made the save plus another on a rebound -11:50 - Sturrock injured - Mateja replaced him
Second period notes:
-Ridgebacks controlling play with Windsor taking a lot of penalties -Chimienti scored a slapper from the point on a 2 man advantage -Backs applied good pressure and had good puck movement on the PP -A lot of pushing after the whistle, Blue Crew getting wild -Turner scored on a snap shot over the goalies glove -Turner scored his second of the game with a wrist shot in the slot to hit the top corner UOIT PP - 2/7 WINDSOR PP - 0/3
Third period notes:
-Romic broke the shutout with a PP goal banking it off Mateja at the side of the net -UOIT held off the Windsor attack for the win -The Ridgebacks left the off to a standing ovation -Great night at the Campus Ice Centre
