Ridgebacks Men's Hockey So Close to First Ever OUA Victory!!!

Toronto (OUA) - Head Coach Marlin Muylaert was satisfied that his team
played hard and fought hard in each game played recently at the Yale
University Invitational in Connecticut.  This effort showed greatly tonight
as the Ridgebacks jumped out to a 4-1 lead over the York Lions in OUA Men's
regular season hockey action at the Beatirce Ice Gardens - York University.

Jordan Freeland scored his second gaol of the game at the 4:41 mark of the
second period to give the OUA's newest team a 4-1 lead.  That lead, however
would be shortlived as the Lions scored three unanswered goals to tie the
game at 4-4 heading into the 2nd period intermission.

Ridgebacks starting Goalie Matt Mateja who was spectacular against Brown
University in the US last weekend stopping 56 shots, started this one for
UOIT however was replaced by Josh Sturrock to start the third period. Mateja
faced only 17 shots in the two periods played and gave up 4 goals.

York behind a goal by Chris Jones put the Lions up 6-4 at the 5:08 mark of
the third period.  The late story saw the Dogs post two goals (Paul Pascuzzi
with his second of the game and Dustin Turner who scored at 15:18 of the 3rd
period to send the game into overtime tied 7-7.

Despite a valiant effort, the Lions ended up winning in overtime 8-7.  The
Ridgebacks were oh so close to that first ever OUA win and expect to keep
this scoring burst going at Brock University on Saturday.
