RIDGEBACKS MEN'S HOCKEY FOUR-GOAL DISAPPOINTMENT
Toronto - Looking to build on thier homeopener shootout loss where they were able to tie the game with less than 5 seconds left in regulation, the UOIT Ridgebacks played host to the Royal Military Paladins (Kingston) in the first men's hockey regular season matinee action in school history on Saturday, October 13.
The first period opened with both teams playing tentatively, trying to feel each other out and neither side holding a real advantage. Midway through the period, RMC took the early lead scoring just as a Ridgeback penalty expired. This would turn out to be the story of the game.
The second period would see RMC take control of the game as they would capitalize on another Ridgebacks penalty and open up a 2-0 lead. The Ridgebacks did counter with their first ever OUA regular season powerplay goal by Brent Connolly (Pickering), however, RMC countered with one more to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
UOIT came out hard to open the third period and had more shots on net, but a deflection by their own player put the Ridgebacks down three and then, Michael Soros of the Paladins scored his fourth goal of the game on the powerplay to put this one out of reach. Goaltender Josh Sturrock (Dundalk) made 35 saves on 40 shots.
