The Ridgebacks came out of the gates flying in the first period, applying pressure on the Mustangs. This paid-off as the Ridgebacks bit the legs from under the Mustangs opening the scoring with a powerplay goal from a beautiful one time shot into the top corner from the point by Jackie McArthur (Oshawa), with the assist coming from Melissa Bell (Cobourg). This did not last very long, as the Mustangs rallied back to score a screen shot on a power play, Western then did further damage to the Ridgebacks early drive adding one more before the period was out.

UOIT opened the second period down 2-1 and failed to register a shot in the second period. Things didn’t get any brighter, as the Mustangs got another goal when the Ridgebacks ran into penalty trouble. Looking to shift momentum, Coach Pitcher (Whitby) changed goalies midway through the second after Carliegh Taggart (Oshawa) let in the fourth goal of the game.

The Ridgebacks opened the third period showing a lot of heart as they fought off the constant attack of the Mustangs. However, a tired UOIT team could not come back as they got the wind knocked out of them by two more Western goals. The Mustangs goaltender Danielle Le Ber had 17 saves, while Melissa Scott (Oshawa) had 17 and Carleigh Taggart had 8 in the losing effort.
