RIDGEBACKS WOMEN'S HOCKEY FIRST OUA ROAD GAME
Napanee - On October 4, the Ridgebacks headed out and played their first official Ontario University Athletics (OUA) road game, travelling to Napanee to take on the Queen's Golden Gaels (Kingston). UOIT was looking to rebound from a 4-3 loss to Windsor that the ladies let slip away.
The Ridgebacks came out strong and put the pressure on for the first five minutes of the opening period, but than all the momentum shifted to the other end of the ice and Queen's was able to put one away before the period ended.
The ladies then came out flat to begin the second period, were not able to create many chances in the offensive zone and got into penalty trouble on some very suspect calls from the officals. UOIT was able to generate some great pressure during the last seven minutes of the period but were down 3-0 after two.
The third period was the Ridgebacks best, but they were still fighting the puck and showing signs of a tired team. Carling Jeyes (Little Britain) scored her second goal of the regular season and continued her seven game scoring streak, as she was setup up on a great individual play by captain Megan Friel (Pickering) who kept a Queen's clearing attempt inside the line. Unfortunately, that was all the offence the Ridgebacks could muster in Napanee.
