RIDGEBACKS ROWING EARNS THREE GOLD, ONE SILVER

London - At the Head of the Thames event on September 15 in London, Ontario with gusty late summer winds churning up the waters of Lake Fanshaw, the UOIT Novice Men's Eight, consisting of Colin Jeffery, Michael Orram, Mark Heinien, Rob Naylor, Adrian Baker, Alex Sabo, Kevin Van Rooy, Stroke Rob De Vries, and Cox'n Jo Liang , powered their way to a G old Medal. All the rowers in this crew started rowing this year, and their performance to date bodes well for the future of varsity rowing at UOIT.

Other crews representing UOIT, at this regatta were the Varsity Heavy Men's Eight, the Women's Eight, a Novice Women's Cox Four and a Varsity Men's Cox Four.  All crews were competitive but just finished outside of the medals.

The Ridgeback Varsity Heavy Women, won the Silver Medal , but there is a protest on times and is being looked at as an officials error.

Today at the Western Invitational in London , UOIT entered five crews and once again the Novice Men's Eight team did not disappoint, as for the second year in a row they won the Gold Medal .   The Men's Varsity Heavy Eight placed seventh, in a extremely experienced field as they were two minutes out of first place.  

The Women's Novice Cox 4 of; Cox'n Valerie Naylor, Stroke Jessica Bosse, Laurie Moote, Melissa Szabo, and Bow Jennifer Oullette also won Gold . The Ridgebacks Heavy Women's Eight placed 4th, with a extremely strong finish, but had problems at the start.

Overall, caoch Rob Milliken was very pleased with the crew performance, as they had three eights and two cox fours for a total of 36 competing, as the Ridgebacks were only missing a cox'n.
