The new  AFHC expansion will include a brand new state of the art Triple Gymnasium that will more than double our gym space on campus.  The new 28,500 square foot multi-use triple gym will be dividable by curtains into three separate  gyms and will also include an elevated   3-lane 200m indoor jogging/walking track and scoreboards. Our existing gyms will remain and continue to be programmed for use much the same as they are now.

Each of the 3 new gyms will be able to accommodate    badminton, volleyball or basketball plus many other recreational activities. A centre court basketball and volleyball configuration with roll out NBA goals is also possible providing a 3 sided bleacher setup to hold 2000 spectators.

This centre court setup, seating capacity and gym ceiling height of 38¹ will attract many highend events to our   campus including provincial, national and  international basketball and  volleyball championships.  Not to mention many other provincial and national sporting association events ie baton, badminton, wrestling and martial arts.   The 2000 seat bleacher capacity will also come in handy for hosting large speaker series events, concerts, presentations and of course this fall our Durham College Fall Convocation.  The list of event hosting possibilities for the campus and the community are endless.

Primarily designed to accommodate campus recreation programming and special events, our new triple gym will boost intramural opportunities ten fold.  Whether it be a major event,    intramurals, pick up basketball, dodgeball, sports club or   simply running on the 3-lane indoor track there will be something for everyone.  The facility will also be available to host provincial and national events.

Our new triple gym will play host to the 2008 Ontario Special Olympic Spring Games opening and closing   ceremonies along with the games  basketball events.
