UOIT ROWERS TESTING THEIR STRENGTH IN WOODSTOCK

Members of the UOIT Ridgebacks women’s rowing team will be training off the water and trading in their oars for a different type of competition as they are set to take part in the 4th annual Woodstock Strongman Competition this Saturday in part of the Ontario Strongman Association (OSA) tour.

Ingrid Piat (Oshawa, Ont.), Elysabeth Reavell-Roy (Courtice, Ont.), Taylon Brown (Oshawa, Ont.) and Lisa Harrington (Whitby, Ont.) will be participating in the event which is predicted to draw a large audience in downtown Woodstock. The four Ridgeback teammates are also in preparation for the upcoming OUA rowing season as they all race in the varsity open weight women’s eight.

lisa hParticipants will be competing in four events including the axle press, Conan’s wheel, the frame walk and tire flip during the second leg of the 2008 strongman series tour.

The event was mentioned to the team by strength and conditioning coach Tom Thekan and the athletes thought that it would be a great event to include in part of their summer training.

taylanUOIT Ridgebacks head coach Rob Millikin believes the competition is a great way to stay in shape for the varsity rowing season as he commented that all four of the rowers are very serious when it comes to athletics and their education, as they take their training for their sport and schooling very seriously.
