UOIT surrenders a third period lead to Brock

Women’s Hockey: Brock defeated UOIT 4-2

St. Catharines, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team could not hang on to a third period lead on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated 4-2 against Brock University.

The Ridgebacks led 2-1 heading into the third period, but the Badgers would storm back with three unanswered goals to pick up the two goal comeback win.

It was pair of freshmen who scored for UOIT as Vanessa Johnstone (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and Shantel Brown (Gravenhurst, Ont.) picked up second period goals to give the Ridgebacks the lead. Johnstone also picked up an assist in the game giving her eleven points on the year, placing her second in team scoring. For Brown, it was her first goal of the season.

UOIT outplayed Brock in the first two periods out shooting the Badgers 24-17, but the wheels came off in the third period as they allowed three goals and were out shot 11-3.

Brock’s Beth Clause made 25 stops for the win in net. The third year goaltender has played ever minute for the Badgers this season, picking up ten wins. UOIT’s Emma Thompson (Hastings, Ont.) allowed four goals on 28 shots.

UOIT drops to 3-20-0 on the year while Brock sits in fifth place with a 10-8-3 record.
