SCHEDULE IS SET FOR THE UOIT RIDGEBACKS’ SOPHMORE HOCKEY SEASON

OSHAWA, Ont. – After an impressive inaugural hockey season and being named the 52nd member of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) during the summer break, the UOIT Ridgebacks men’s and women’s hockey programs are excited for the release of the 2008-09 schedules.

The men’s team will begin play of their 28 game schedule with two road games in Kingston prior to their home opener on Friday, October 17 as they are set host the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Puck drop at the Campus Ice Centre is at 7:30 p.m. for the big night.

Other notable games for Marlin Muylaert’s squad include the hosting of a weekend series versus the Lakehead Thunderwolves who were ranked #3 in the final 2007-08 CIS National rankings. The two games will take place Friday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 8 at 3:30 p.m., both at the Campus Ice Centre. It will be the first time that Lakehead will play is Oshawa.

Also of note is the last game of 2008 when the University of Western Ontario Mustangs visit the Campus Ice Centre on Thursday, December 4 for a 7:30 p.m. face-off. UOIT notched their second win of the season in 2007-08 against Western in a shootout, after scoring two goals in the final minute to tie the game. This marked the first time in Ridgebacks history that the team was able to knock off an opponent ranked in the CIS Top Ten.

Like the Men’s squad, the UOIT Women will open their sophomore season with two games on the road. The Ridgebacks will then head back to Oshawa on Friday, October 10 as they open their home schedule against the Brock Badgers. The home opener will start at 7:30 p.m.

Another game of note will take place on Saturday, October 25 as the Ridgebacks will play host to the Waterloo Warriors. The Warriors were the victims of the Ridgebacks first OUA victory last season. Gary Pitcher’s team have made many positive additions to this year’s squad they will look for a playoff position come February.

Tickets are also available to purchase at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre front desk or at the Tuck Shop at the Student Centre.
