Ridgebacks Women’s Hockey Lands a Leader in New Recruit From Barrie
Oshawa, ON – University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) women’s hockey head coach Gary Pitcher is please to announce the addition of Barrie, Ontario native Emily Bremer to the mix for the team’s sophomore season.
“Emily’s experience will be an asset to the team,” said Pitcher of Bremer. “She’s played top quality hockey at a number of levels and has demonstrated herself as a leader at each stop along the way.”
Bremer is a right handed forward who last played with the Barrie Sharks Midget ‘AA’ squad. She has also recently competed at the 2008 Ontario Winter Games, earning a fourth place finish. In 2006, she took part in the Team Ontario Under 18 selection camp.
“I think Emily will fit in well with the strong core of returning forwards,” noted Pitcher. “With her talents and skill set, she will add depth to our developing roster.”
Emily looks to make her mark at UOIT both on the ice and as part of the Health Science program. “I wish to be as successful as possible during my time at UOIT,” said Bremer. “This includes maintaining a high academic standing while playing varsity hockey for the Ridgebacks.”
Bremer’s leadership is one of her strong suits, as she was named captain of both the Varsity Girls hockey team and Senior Girls soccer team at her high school in Barrie, ON. Among her other high school accomplishments was being named the Junior Female Athlete of the Year (2006), Junior Girls Basketball MVP (2006) and Junior Girls Soccer MVP (2005, 2006). She was also named Most Valuable Player for her Varsity Girls Hockey team in 2007. Academically, she was a member of the honour roll in every year while receiving a Junior Letter, Junior Bar, and Senior Letter.
The UOIT women’s team is looking to have a successful second season in the OUA and the addition of Emily Bremer will help reach the Ridgebacks reach their goals.
