UOIT in Tough Against the Nationally Ranked Princeton Tigers

Men’s Hockey: Princeton defeated UOIT 8-2

Providence, RI –
Playing against the No. 10 nationally ranked Princeton University Tigers on Saturday afternoon, the UOIT Ridgebacks men’s hockey team were in tough as they were defeated 8-2 in their final game at the Showcase at Meehan. The game concludes UOIT's exhibition roadtrip against the top teams in the Ivy League.

Princeton scored three goals in the opening period to pull ahead in the game to take a commanding lead. Princeton added another three goals in the second period and two in the final stanza to finish with eight goals.

The Tigers opened the scoring at 9:18 when freshman Marc Hagel scored from sophomore Sam Sabky. Dan Bartlett made it 2-0 three minutes later and Matt Arhontas scored the eventual game winner 10 seconds after that.

UOIT’s Derrick Bagshaw (Oshawa, Ont.) scored midway through the second period to make the score 3-1, but Princeton goals by Cam Ritchie, Wilson and Kaiser stretched the Tigers lead out to five by the end of the period. Wilson and Brandan Kushniruk added third period goals for the Tigers.

Wilson had two goals and an assist in the win, while Kaiser had a goal and two assists. Arhontas and Mark Magnowski added two points apiece in the game.

Thomas Sychterz made five saves and sophomore Alan Reynolds stopped seven shots as the two goalies split the game. Sychterz was credited with the win.

As Princeton opens its home schedule next Friday against Cornell, UOIT will return to Oshawa to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves for back-to-back regular season home games.
