Tough Loss for UOIT on Home Ice

Women’s Hockey: York defeated UOIT 4-1

Oshawa, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team went down in defeat to York University on Friday night as the Lions skated away with a 4-1 victory at the Campus Ice Centre.

Midway through the first period, the Ridgebacks fell asleep as they allowed York to score three goals in four minutes, breaking the game wide open. At the end of the period, UOIT starting goalie Emma Thompson (Hastings, Ont.) was pull for Carleigh Taggart (Bowmanville, Ont.)

With the Ridgebacks applying pressure in the second period looking to cut into the lead, York was able to stop the change of momentum as they scored a shorthanded goal, giving them a commanding 4-0 lead.

UOIT would score in the third period as Rikki Palmateer (Cobourg, Ont.) netted her second goal of the year, but it just wasn’t enough as York won by a score of 4-1. Breanne Hadley (Belleville, Ont.) and Megan Friel (Pickering, Ont.) picked up assists on the play.

The Lions outshot UOIT 39-17 while both teams were scoreless on the power play (York 0-4, UOIT 0-5).

UOIT will be back at it on Saturday night as they take on Queen’s University at the Campus Ice Centre for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop. The last time these two teams met, UOIT skated away with a 6-2 victory on home ice.
