Ridgebacks fall in a tight game against Brock

Women’s Hockey: Brock defeated UOIT 1-0

Oshawa, Ont. –Despite plenty of scoring chances and a strong effort, the UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team could not find the back of the net on Saturday as they were downed by the Brock Badgers 1-0 in OUA action at the Campus Ice Centre.

The Ridgebacks matched up well against the fourth place Badgers as the teams were very even on the ice. UOIT out shot Brock 30-15 in the final two periods and had a number of scoring chances, but it was the Badgers who would score the lone goal of the game midway through the final stanza to give the team the win.

In the two games against one another this season, the teams have been as even as it gets as each team has skated away with one victory and have scored three goals apiece.

Emma Thompson (Hastings, Ont.) was between the pipes for UOIT making 33 stops in the loss. Beth Clause stopped all 39 shots from UOIT to pick up the shutout. Both teams struggled on the power play as UOIT went 0-for-8 while Brock went 1-for-10.

Scoring has been a major issue for the Ridgebacks this season as they have scored a league-low 17 goals in 13 games this season. The team will look to break out of the slump tomorrow night at the Campus Ice Centre as they host the University of Guelph Gryphons at 7:30 p.m.
