Ridgebacks women’s hockey hang with the sixth ranked Varsity Blues

Women’s Hockey – U of T defeated UOIT 4-1

Toronto, Ont. – Playing against the nationally sixth ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon, the UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team could not overcome a slow start in the game as they were defeated 4-1 at Varsity Arena.

After allowing a pair of goals in each of the first two periods, UOIT looked like a completely different team in the third as they controlled the flow of the game. The Ridgebacks were rewarded for their hard work as Breanne Hadley netted her second goal of her career, but it wasn’t enough to get back into the game. Rikki Palmateer and Melissa Findlay picked up assists on the Ridgebacks lone goal.

Freshman goalie Emma Thompson made her third start in between the pipes for UOIT, making 30 saves in the losing effort. The Ridgebacks were shutout on the power play going 0-for-7 with the man advantage.

UOIT slipped to 1-4 on the season while the Varsity Blues jumped into first place with a 5-1 record.

The Ridgebacks will now return home for back-to-back games as they face the University of Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, October 25 (7:30 p.m.) followed by a game against the third ranked Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday, October 26 (3:30 p.m.) at the Campus Ice Centre.
