Another Win for UOIT at the Dog Pound!

Men’s Hockey – UOIT defeated York 3-2

Oshawa, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks men’s hockey team remained perfect on home ice as they defeated the York University Lions 3-2 Friday night at the Campus Ice Centre. The Ridgebacks are now 2-0 at the Dog Pound and 2-1-0-1 in OUA conference play, marking the first time the team has ever been over the .500 mark.

Jason Fransky (Bancroft, Ont.) scored two goals in the victory to lead UOIT over the Lions. For Fransky, it was not only his first two goals of the season, but his first two goals in OUA play. Last season, the Bancroft native only played eight games for UOIT prior to suffering a season ending injury.

Fransky’s second goal of the night would put the Ridgebacks up 2-1, but it was Dustin Turner (Charlottetown, PEI) who would score the eventual game winner as he netted a power play goal late in the second period to give UOIT a 3-1 lead.

Whitby native Tyler Harrison of the Lions scored the lone goal of the third period, with UOIT goalie Matt Mateja stopping the remainder of the shots as the Ridgebacks would pick up their second straight win on home ice.

UOIT’s penalty killing unit was very effective, holding the Lions to just one goal in ten attempts while the Ridgebacks would go 1-for-5 on the power play.

For the second consecutive game, over 500 fans were in attendance , creating an excellent atmosphere at the Dog Pound.

The Ridgebacks next home action will be on Friday, November 7 (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday, November 8 (3:30 p.m.) for back-to-back games against the Lakehead Thunderwolves of Thunder Bay.

The Ridgebacks will now head to Brock University for their next league game on Saturday, October 25 for a 7:35 p.m. puck drop against the Badgers.
