UOIT Falls to the Defending OUA Champs

Men’s Hockey – Brock defeated UOIT 7-0

St. Catharines, Ont. – Coming off a 3-2 home victory last night, the UOIT Ridgebacks men’s hockey team were in tough against Brock on Saturday. The Ridgebacks got down early in the game and could never recover as they were upended by the defending OUA champions by a final score of 7-0.

Brock’s power play was on fire as they scored five power play goals, three of which were in the first period. Isaac Smeltzer and Ryan Allen both had four point performances for the Badgers while Kurt Jory made 26 saves for the shutout.

There was some bad blood between the two divisional rivals on the night as over 145 penalty minutes were handed out including nine misconducts.

Brock jumped into first place in the division with the win as they sport a conference record of 4-1-1. UOIT returns to the .500 mark with the loss as they hold a 2-2-1 conference record.

UOIT will now travel to Brown University for a pair of non-conference games against Ivy League opponents as they will meet the Yale Bulldogs and Princeton Tigers next weekend.

The Ridgebacks next home action will be on Friday, November 7 (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday, November 8 (3:30 p.m.) for back-to-back games against the Lakehead Thunderwolves of Thunder Bay.
