Waterloo Comes Back to Defeat UOIT in Women’s Hockey

Women’s Hockey – Waterloo defeated UOIT 3-1

Oshawa, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team came up short in their second home game of the year as they were defeated by the University of Waterloo Warriors 3-1 at the Campus Ice Centre on Saturday night.

Breanne Hadley (Belleville, Ont.) would open up scoring in the game for UOIT on the power play just 33 seconds into the second period, but Waterloo would score the next three goals to skate away with the 3-1 victory.

Hadley is having an impressive freshman year for UOIT as she leads the team in goals (3) and points (4). Sarah Bryson of the Warriors put the game away for Waterloo in the third period as she netted her sixth goal of the season, as she leads the league in points with eight on the year.

In three of their last four games, UOIT has scored the opening goal of the game but only have one win to show for their strong starts.

Emma Thompson made her fourth start in net for UOIT and had 25 stops in the losing effort. Waterloo would end up out shooting the Ridgebacks 28-21 in the game.

UOIT drops to 1-5-0-0 on the year while Waterloo improves to 3-1-1-0.

The Ridgebacks will look to turn the page as they will face the five time defending OUA champion Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday afternoon at the Campus Ice Centre. Puck drop is at 6:30 p.m.
