Ridgebacks Put Up a Fight Against U of T

Oshawa, Ont. – Nick Soldera (Woodbridge, Ont.) of the UOIT Ridgebacks men’s tennis team defeated his opponent of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Saturday afternoon in a come from behind victory at the Campus Tennis Centre.

In an intensity filled match, Soldera made some clutch shots down the stretch to take the match 2-1. Set scores were 3-6, 6-1 and 6-4. Although Soldera’s teammates put in a good effort, the Varsity Blues would finish ahead of the Ridgebacks by a final score of 6-1.

On the women’s side, UOIT could not pick up any points to pull off an upset as the four-time defending OUA Champions swept the Ridgebacks 7-0.

The Ridgebacks men’s and women’s teams will head to London on Saturday afternoon to take on the Western Mustangs. For the men’s team, it will be their 2008 regular season finale. The women’s will team will wrap up their season on Sunday, October 5 as they head to York University for a neutral site game against the McMaster Marauders.
