Ridgebacks Tennis Rounded Up By the Mustangs

London, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to London to take on the University of Western Ontario Mustangs. After an exciting day of tennis action, the UOIT men’s team was able to pick up points in their third consecutive match while the women’s team was swept by the Mustangs.

Freshman Andrew Brown of Pickering upended his opponent 2-1 to pick up the Ridgebacks only points of the day. Set scores in the match were 6-2, 6-7, 7-1. The Ridgebacks were competitive in the match, with each game going deep to decide a winner. For the men’s team, it was the third straight match in which they picked up points. It also marked the end of the season for the team, as they failed to qualify for the provincial finals.

The women’s team was overmatch by the Mustangs on this day, as Western improved to 4-1 on the season. The UOIT women’s team will now have one match remaining before the end of their 2008 season as they head to York University to challenge the McMaster Marauders on Sunday, October 5 for a neutral site game.
