Golden Hawks shutout the Ridgebacks

Men’s Hockey: Laurier defeated UOIT 7-0

OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks men’s hockey team found themselves on the wrong end of a 7-0 decision on Friday night as they fell to the No. 8 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks at the Campus Ice Centre.

The shutout loss comes just three days after the Ridgebacks picked up their biggest win in program history, defeating the Brock Badgers 8-0 on Tuesday.

The game was a penalty filled affair with the two teams combining for 58 penalty minutes, 38 in total being handed out to the Ridgebacks.

Laurier came into the game with the league’s top power play unit and they continued their success against the Ridgebacks, scoring on four of eight attempts including two power play markers in the first period.

Despite holding the OUA’s top scorer Paul Bradley to just one assist, the Ridgebacks could not shut down the Laurier offensive attack. Clinton Pettapiece finished with one goal and four assists, recording the highest output by any opposing player in the Ridgeback program’s history (five points).

Jeff Borrows of the Golden Hawks chipped in with two goals and two assists while Craig Voakes had a goal and two assists.

Laurier goaltender Ryan Daniels made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season.

The Ridgebacks fall to 6-9-1 on the year while the Golden Hawks improve to 12-4-1. The game wraps up the 2009 portion of the schedule for both teams, with Laurier sitting alone in second place while the Ridgebacks are just two points back of sixth position.
