Ridgebacks edged out by the nationally ranked York Lions

Women’s Hockey: York defeated UOIT 4-1

NORTH YORK, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team fell to the nationally ranked York Lions on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 4-1 in North York.

After UOIT veteran Rikki Palmateer (Cobourg, Ont.) tied the game up at 1-1 at the 15:24 mark of the second period, York exploded for two goals in the next three minutes to give the Lions a 3-1 lead. Chloe Milano would add an insurance marker in the third period to clinch the Lions third straight victory.

York out shot UOIT 48-22, with Ridgebacks goaltender Emma Thompson (Hastings, Ont.) making 44 saves. Both teams were shutout on the power play.

York improves to 13-5-1 and trail Queen’s University (13-3-2) by a single point for second place in the standings. UOIT’s losing streak is now at eight games as they fall to 4-12-3 on the year.

UOIT will be back in action at home on Friday, January 22 against Brock University (7:30 p.m.). Oshawa Lady Generals day will take place on Saturday, January 23 as the Ridgebacks take on the Guelph Gryphons at 3:30 p.m.
