Ridgebacks cannot find the back of the net on Friday night

Women’s Hockey: Brock defeated UOIT 2-0

OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team could not solve Brock University goaltender Beth Clause on Friday night as they were shutout by the Badgers 2-0 at the Campus Ice Centre.

Clause, who has played in all but 40 minutes for the Badgers this season, stopped all 37 Ridgeback shots to record the win and her second shutout of the year.

Brock would score the opening goal 2:47 into the second period as Maggie Matheson netted her fourth goal of the year. The Badgers would add one more goal later in the frame as Courtney Sutherland beat UOIT goalie Jessica Larabie (Pickering, Ont.), her second goal of the season.

The final shots finished tied at 37 apiece, as Larabie made 35 stops in the losing effort. Both teams went 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

UOIT drops to 4-13-3 on the year while the Badgers improve to 8-10-3, tied for the final playoff position with the Western Mustangs.

Brock and UOIT have played very close games in the past two years, as all six contests have been decided by two goals or less.

The Ridgebacks next action is on Saturday, January 23 at 3:30 p.m. when they take on the University of Guelph Gryphons for Oshawa Lady Generals Day at the Campus Ice Centre.
