Ridgebacks receive top honours at the University Dance Challenge

GUELPH, Ont. - The UOIT Ridgebacks varsity dance team took part in the University Dance Challenge at The River Run Dance Centre in Guelph, Ont. Performing ten routines, the Ridgebacks faired quite well receiving high praise from the judges as well as the fans.

In total, the Ridgebacks received seven superior dance awards for having scores over 91 per cent. The team also received two excellence awards (scores 87-88.9) and one high excellence award (89-90.9).

Performers Frank Wilson & Nicollette Evans received a special award from an adjudicator for their hip hop duet "Rice & Peas”, called the "Sizzlin' Style Award". The adjudicator spoke about their chemistry and style together on stage.

“Overall we could not have been more proud of our first Varsity Dance Team,” said head coaches Mallory Ryan and Candice MacDougall. “All dancers represented UOIT extremely well. It was a very long day but the dancers' energy and enthusiasm radiated throughout the day, and for some of them, continued on the bus ride back to the school!”

Some of the other top schools including Ryerson University, Wilfrid Laurier University and Brock University were also in attendance, and are attending B.A.M. (Bust-a-Move), which is set to take place at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Saturday, March 27.
