Bust-a-Move a big success

OSHAWA, Ont. – Dancers from 15 schools had fans out of their seats at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Saturday as the UOIT Ridgebacks hosted BAM – the Bust-a-Move dance competition.

The all-day event featured the top dance teams from Universities and Colleges across Ontario competing against one another in a variety of dance styles. After the 118 performances were complete, it was the Wilfrid Laurier Competitive Dance Team walking away as BAM champions as they had an average score of 91.569.

The UOIT Ridgebacks finished fourth at the competition, averaging 89.07 in their ten performances. The Ridgebacks finished second in the small group category as their contemporary dance routine of Winter had a final score of 94.25 (full results below).

Four professional adjudicators were on hand to judge the competition, including one of the top contestants from So You Think You Can Dance Canada - B-boy, Miles Faber.

UOIT dance coaches and organizers of the event Mallory Ryan and Candice MacDougall were impressed by all of the dance team’s routines and were pleased with the great turnout at the event, calling it a wonderful event.

The event also helped out a great cause as fans in attendance were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items to replace the cost of admission to support the campus wide food drive.

B.A.M. was started in 2008 by members of the UOIT Dance Company, which has now become a varsity program at UOIT.
