Ridgebacks lose another high scoring affair – rematch tomorrow afternoon

Men's Hockey: Lakehead defeated UOIT 9-5

OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks men's hockey team opened up a weekend doubleheader against Lakehead University on the losing end of a 9-5 decision at the Campus Ice Centre.

After Lakehead jumped out to a 5-1 first period lead, the Ridgebacks were forced to play catch-up for the remaining two periods. UOIT would cut the Thunderwolves lead to within two goals, but Lakehead would eventually pull away as the Ridgebacks fell by a final score of 9-5.

Kyle Wetering (Pickering, Ont.) picked up his first two goals of the year while Mike Noyes (Lucan, Ont.) scored a goal and added an assist for a two point night. Scott Dobben did most of the damage for Lakehead picking up a hat-trick while adding an assist in the win.

Even though the game featured 14 total goals, both teams were shutout on the power play as Lakehead was 0-for-6 and UOIT went 0-for-2. The Thunderwolves outshot UOIT 37-22.

The two teams will be back on the ice on Saturday, October 17 for a rematch at the Campus Ice Centre. Puck drop is at 3:30 p.m.
