UOIT drops their second game of the Ivy League Showdown

PROVIDENCE, RI – In tough against the Brown University Bears, the UOIT Ridgebacks men’s hockey team lost their second game of the Ivy League Showdown falling by a final score of 6-1 Saturday evening at the Meehan Auditorium.

Five different players scored and nine different Brown players earned at least one point, including senior Devin Timberlake ( Port Alberni, BC), who notched three assists in the win.

The Bears wasted little time in scoring, earning a 1-0 lead on the first shot of the game just 25 seconds in. After winning the opening faceoff, Timberlake started a give-and-go with freshman Chris Zaires (Aberdeen, NJ). From the bottom of the faceoff circle, Timberlake sent one last pass to the slot, where Zaires tipped the puck over Jason Guy's left shoulder for the early lead.

The Ridgebacks would go on to outshoot Brown, 7-3, in the period, but the Bears added one more goal to head into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead. Skating on their first power-play of the game, Brown maintained possession towards the tail end and freshman Richie Crowley (Canton, MA) struck just one second after the advantage expired for the Bears' second goal.

After Brown added two more goals to their lead, the Ridgebacks got on the board at 12:49 in the third period on a goal by 2008-09 OUA all-rookie team member Mike Noyes (Lucan, Ont.). Josh Vatri (Barrie, Ont.) and Nathan Spaling (Drayton, Ont.) picked up the assists on the play.

Brown sophomore Jeff Buvinow (Turnersville, NJ) regained a four-goal lead for Brown when he put away a pass from senior Jordan Pietrus (Winnipeg, Man.) just 28 seconds later.

Senior Dan Rosen (Syosset, NY) earned the start in net and made 10 saves, before giving way to freshman Anthony Borelli (Grand Island, NY), who stopped two of three shots. Guy recorded 26 saves for UOIT.

The Ridgebacks return to regular season action next weekend when they the Brock Badgers on Saturday, November 7. Puck drop at the Campus Ice Centre is at 7:30 p.m.
