Tereshyn’s two goal night lifts UOIT to a 3-2 win over Windsor

Women’s Hockey: UOIT defeated Windsor 3-2

OSHAWA, Ont. –
Chrissy Tereshyn scored two goals including the game winner to lead the UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team to a 3-2 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night at the Campus Ice Centre.

After surrendering the lone goal in the first period, UOIT would bounce back with two goals in the second frame from Tereshyn (Scarborough, Ont.) and Sarah Worthington (Whitby, Ont.), giving the Ridgebacks a 2-1 lead. Worthington picked up an assist on the Ridgebacks first goal, giving her two points on the night.

Lancer forward Manon Davis would score her second goal of the game just four minutes into the final stanza, tying the game back at 2-2. Davis leads the OUA in goals with second on the year.

Avoiding a third period comeback for the second straight night, Tereshyn would score the game winning goal for UOIT with just over five minutes left on the clock to give the Ridgebacks the 3-2 victory, their second win of the year.

Jill Morillo (Whitby, Ont.) along with Shantel Brown (Gravenhurst, Ont.) set up the game winning goal, picking up assists on the play. Morillo has recorded points in the Ridgebacks last three game and is in the top ten in league scoring with six points on the year.

Emma Thompson (Hastings, Ont.) was impressive in net for UOIT turning aside 34 Lancer shots, 16 of which were in the third period. Her counterpart, Jamie Tessier, stopped 37 of the Ridgebacks 40 shots.

The pace of the game was very quick as there were only six penalties called, three to side. Windsor would go 2-for-3 with the man advantage while UOIT was shutout going 0-for-3.

The Ridgebacks next action will be on the road from November 7-8 as the team will take on Waterloo and Laurier.
