Ridgebacks host the second annual UOIT Athletic/Academic Awards Luncheon
OSHAWA, Ont. – The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) athletic department hosted the second annual Athletic/Academic Awards Luncheon at the Student Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Student-athletes, friends, family, coaches, members of the student association, faculty and staff were on hand as the department honoured the student-athletes for their academic achievements in 2010/11.
The UOIT Scholastic Award was presented to Lisa Smith of the dance team as well as Ian Ngaira of the rowing and dance teams for having the top overall GPA of all varsity student-athletes.
“We are extremely proud of all of our award winners today,” said Ken Babcock, Director of Athletics. “Recognizing the students for their academic achievements is important and the amount of recipients reflects how our student-athletes at UOIT strive for success in the classroom and their respective sports.”
In total, 34 UOIT student-athletes earned All-Academic awards honouring their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and in athletics. In 2009/10, 21 student-athletes won the All-Academic award.
