Ridgebacks add size and speed to the wing

OSHAWA, Ont. – UOIT Ridgebacks head coach Marlin Muylaert is proud to announce the addition of Brendan Wise (Stouffville, Ont.) to the lineup for the 2010-11 season.

“Brendan was hands down one of, if not the fastest skater in Tier II junior hockey and his speed and nose for the net will be a great asset to our program,” said Muylaert. “He has shown continuous growth and improvement during his three years in North York and our staff is confident he will continue this growth with our program.”

The 6’0 winger joins UOIT after a three year career with the North York Rangers of the OPJHL. Wise was no stranger to the score sheet as he tallied 145 points in 143 regular season games with the Rangers.

In his final season as team captain in 2009-10, Wise led all scorers on the Rangers with 31 goals and 34 assists in 48 games. On the power play, he registered seven goals and 12 assists.

In addition to his junior career, Wise also found success at the high school level, leading the Stouffville Spartans to an OFSAA championship in 2006-07.

Muylaert is hoping that this years’ recruiting class can make as big of a splash as last season’s did with Jason Guy (Whitby, Ont.) receiving provincial recognition earning a spot on the OUA all-star and all-rookie team while Jeff Barletta (Port Stanley, Ont.), Scott Baker (Mactier, Ont.), John McCullough (Barrie, Ont.) and Chris McGuffin (St. Thomas, Ont.) all received significant playing time in the Ridgebacks playoff run.

Wise has been accepted to UOIT for the 2010-11 academic year and eagerly waiting for training camp to begin in September.
