Ridgebacks look strong in the second half of preseason action

OUA Men's Soccer: Ryerson defeated UOIT 3-2

OSHAWA , Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks kicked off their 2011 campaign with a 3-2 loss to the Ryerson Rams in OUA men's soccer action on Friday night.

After falling behind 3-0 early in the second half, the Ridgebacks fought back and cut the lead to just one with a pair of quick strikes.

Making his return to the line-up after suffering a season ending injury in the first game of 2010, Daniel Matthews (Pickering, Ont.) got the Ridgebacks on the board at the 65 minute mark. Six minutes later, Alex Razimor ( Newtonbrook , Ont.) would capitalize on a penalty kick netting the Ridgebacks second goal of the night.

For the next twenty minutes, UOIT would pepper the Ryerson net with shots but were unable to pull even as the Rams escaped with the 3-2 win.

“We got off to a slow start but we were able regroup and turn things around,” said head coach Vaso Vujanovic. “The team has been working hard this past week during training camp and it was good to the first game under our belt.”

Ryerson is coming off a successful 2010 season where they qualified for the OUA final four.

UOIT's next exhibition game will take place on Wednesday, August 24 against Trent University at Vaso's Field. Game time is at 6 p.m.
