Peter Butler named the head coach of the UOIT golf program
OSHAWA, Ont. – The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) athletic department is proud to announce that Peter Butler has been named the head coach of the varsity golf program.
“We are excited to introduce Peter as the first head coach of the golf program,” said Ken Babcock, UOIT athletic director. “With his knowledge and expertise of the sport, it was an easy choice for the selection committee. We cannot wait for Peter to begin and for the program to launch this fall.”
Butler is the head golf professional at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club, the home course of the UOIT Ridgebacks. He manages all aspects the golf operation and ensures the club is in touch with the latest golf techniques and equipment for its members.
Having been a member of the Canadian Professional Golf Association (CPGA) since 1994, Butler has plenty experience playing and teaching golf at a high level.
He started as an assistant professional at the Oshawa Golf & Curling Club for a three-year term, and then moved to the Royal Ottawa Golf Club as an assistant/associate professional in 1997.
In 2000, he moved to the Peterborough Golf & Curling Club as the head golf professional for two years, before returning to Oshawa in 2002.
JC Beecroft, James Clark, Jamie Loverock and Jake Patte will be assistant coaches of the team.
