Ridgebacks return home from Ottawa with a win and a tie
CIS Men’s Soccer (Exhibition Games)
UOIT defeated Ottawa 5-0 (Saturday)
UOIT tied Sherbrooke 1-1 (Sunday)
OTTAWA – The UOIT men’s soccer team will return home from their exhibition series in Ottawa with a lot of confidence as they picked up a win and a tie over the weekend.
The Ridgebacks upended the hosting Ottawa Gee Gee’s 5-0 in their opening game on Saturday and followed that up with a 1-1 draw against Sherbrooke on Sunday.
The Ridgebacks are on a three-game unbeaten streak in exhibition action after going 1-0-2 this past week.
Midfielder Alex Razimor scored two goals against Ottawa including one on a penalty shot while Justin Gordon, Daniel Matthews and Andrew Serediuk all had singles. Matt Caldaroni and Michael Heinrich split time in net for the shutout.
Trailing 1-0 to Sherbrooke midway through the second half, Matt Craven scored his first goal of the preseason to give the Ridgebacks a 1-1 draw.
The Ridgebacks will scrimmage against Ajax U18 on Wednesday night (9 p.m.) and then take on the Sheridan Bruins on Friday (8 p.m.). Both games will take place at Vaso’s Field in Oshawa.
