UOIT Ridgebacks – Inside the Numbers – Semester in Review



OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks athletic program continues to grow and is becoming a contender in the OUA and CIS. As the holiday season approaches, the numbers show what impact Ridgeback student-athletes have made in their respective sports so far this season.
 
9 – Number of crew members that attended the Canadian University Rowing Association national championship in November. Meaghan Jones, Allison Ng, Allison Demaiter, Sheila King, Angela Dares, Gillian Beckette, Christie Attwood, Kelsey Sargent and coxie Monica Mak were the first UOIT student-athletes to take part in a national championship in any sport.
 
0 – Number of goals UOIT men’s soccer goalkeepers Matt Caldaroni and Michael Heinrich allowed in two games against the OUA champion McMaster Marauders.
 
4,322 – Attendance at Yost Ice Arena to watch UOIT beat the University of Michigan 3-2 in men’s hockey action.

5-2 – Final score of UOIT’s first tennis team victory in OUA competition. The Ridgebacks defeated the McMaster Marauders at the Campus Tennis Centre in October.

1 – Number of strokes Joel Neal shot on the 11th hole at the Waterloo/Laurier invitational. He is the first Ridgeback to record a hole-in-one in OUA competition.

13 – Number of goals UOIT women’s hockey captain Jill Morillo has scored this season. She is tied atop of the OUA scoring charts with Morgan McHaffie of Queen’s.

3 – The number of wins the UOIT men’s curling team had at the Toronto Invitational. This was their first official OUA bonspiel.

5 – Jersey number worn by men’s soccer player Aldo Maiorano, who became the first UOIT Ridgeback to be named an OUA men’s soccer all-star.

7 – Number of tournaments the UOIT women’s lacrosse team attended this year including the OUA championship in their first official year as a varsity team.

2 – Number of medals the UOIT crew won at the Head of the Welland. The women’s varsity 8+ finished in second place and the men’s novice 8+ finished in third.

52 – Number of goals Josh Vatri has scored with the UOIT men’s hockey program. Vatri is the first Ridgeback to score 50 goals in a career.
