UOIT loses a tough one to the nationally ranked Gaels

OUA Women’s Hockey: Queen’s defeated UOIT 4-3


KINGSTON, Ont. – UOIT closed out the 2011 portion of their OUA conference schedule on Friday night with a 4-3 loss to the nationally ranked Queen’s Gaels.



Coming off the heels of an 8-1 loss to the No. 6 ranked Guelph Gryphons, the schedule was not in favour of the Ridgebacks as Queen’s is seventh in the CIS rankings.

Despite falling down 2-0 after twenty minutes, UOIT managed to fight back to take a 3-2 lead in the second period.

Jill Morillo scored two goals for the Ridgebacks giving her 13 on the season to lead all scorers in the OUA. Katie Gordanier was the other goal scorer for the Ridgebacks in the loss.

Brittany and Morgan McHaffie would lead the Gael’s comeback as Morgan scored the game tying goal in the second period, and Brittany scored the game winner shorthanded in the third period.

Jessica Larabie was the Ridgebacks only goaltender to travel with the team as Emma Thompson was out of the lineup with an illness. Fighting flu symptoms herself, Larabie had a great performance making 26 stops.
