UOIT downs SMU in Halifax

CIS Women’s Hockey: UOIT defeated St. Mary’s 5-1 *Exhibition Game

HALIFAX – The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team knocked off St. Mary’s University 5-1 in Halifax on Thursday night.

Playing in the program’s first game out of province against another conference in the CIS, the Ridgebacks looked dominant up against the Huskies enroute to the four goal victory.

“It was a great way to start to the second half of the season,” said UOIT head coach Karen Nystrom. “The team came out with great intensity, energy and a solid effort against SMU.”

The Ridgebacks defence looked strong throughout the entire game holding the Huskies to just one third period goal and limiting their scoring opportunities. Jessica Larabie (Pickering, Ont.) was in net for UOIT picking up the win.

The team will wrap up their holiday road trip against Dalhousie on Friday night. The Tigers shutout SMU on Wednesday night 4-0.

“We are looking to come home with a 2-0 record,” said Nystrom. “However, we will need another solid effort tomorrow night.”
