Ridgebacks hang tough with the No. 1 ranked Golden Hawks
OUA Women’s Hockey – Laurier defeated UOIT 5-2
*Senior’s Night is Friday against Waterloo at 7:30 p.m.
OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team dropped a 5-2 decision to the No. 1 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks at the Campus Ice Centre on Thursday night.
Laurier has not suffered a loss in regulation this season as they improve to 22-0-1. The Ridgebacks fall to 9-14-0 and remain two points out of the final playoff spot in the OUA.
Tammy Freiburger earned the first star honours as she had a three-point night with two goals and an assist for the Golden Hawks. Teammate Paula Lagamba also had a multi-point game as she recorded two assists.
Leading 4-2 late in the third period, Brittany Crago sealed the win for Laurier scoring an empty net goal.
Kayla Jardine (Toronto, Ont.) and Breanne Hadley (Belleville, Ont.) lit the lamp for the Ridgebacks.
Laurier’s Laura Brooker and UOIT’s Jill Morillo sit tied atop of the OUA leaderboard in goal scoring this season with 17 points apiece. Both players had one assist in the game but were not able find the back of the net.
Jessica Larabie of Pickering made 38 saves in goal for the Ridgebacks while Erika Thunder had 20 stops for the Golden Hawks.
UOIT will host their final home game of the regular season on Friday night as they take on the Waterloo Warriors. Game time for senior’s night at the Campus Ice Centre is 7:30 p.m.
Friday’s contest will also be girl guides appreciation night and one lucky fan will win an IPAD courtesy of Shagwell’s and Coke.
