UOIT curlers have a strong showing at Brock

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - This past weekend, the UOIT men’s and women’s curling teams took part in the 2012 Brock Invitational Bonspiel which was held at the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club (Saturday) and the Welland Curling Club (Sunday).

The women’s team had a great tournament as they finished in third place overall with a 3-0-2 record (wins-ties-losses).

On Saturday, the Ridgebacks lost their first game to Laurier, 5-4, but came back with a 7-5 win over Guelph. On Sunday, the Ridgebacks picked up two wins and a loss. The team started off the day with a 7-6 win against McMaster, followed up by a 10-2 loss to Waterloo. The team ended the day strong with a 12-4 win over Western.

Brock won the tournament with a 4-0-1 overall record.

On the men’s side, the Ridgebacks finished with a 2-0-3 record and finished in fifth place.

On Saturday, the Ridgebacks began the day with a 6-4 loss to Laurier but rebounded with a 7-4 victory over Guelph. The team started off Sunday with a pair of losses against Laurier Junior Varsity (9-1) and Waterloo (8-3), but managed to finish off with a 6-4 win over Western.

Waterloo finished in first place with a perfect 5-0-0 record.

The Welland Curling Club is the host site for the 2012 CIS Curling Championships.
