UOIT’s Jill Morillo named OUA Athlete of the Week

HAMILTON, Ont. – UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey captain Jill Morillo has been named the female OUA Athlete of the Week.

Morillo, a third year nuclear engineering student, tallied six points in two games this past weekend as the Ridgebacks continued to push for their first playoff appearance. Morillo (Whitby, Ont.) scored two goals and two assists against Western and had one goal and an assist in a 5-0 shutout over Windsor. The 2011 CIS Academic All-Canadian leads the league in goals (17) and is third in points (29). It was her fifth and sixth multi-point games of the season.

Morillo joins Jason Guy (men’s hockey) and Jessica Larabie (women’s hockey) as the only other UOIT student-athletes to have been named OUA athletes of the week.

The Ridgebacks will have two home games this week as they host the No. 1 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks on Thursday and the Waterloo Warriors on Friday. Friday’s game is Girl Guides appreciation night as well as the Ridgebacks final home game of the regular season.

Lakehead men’s basketball student-athlete Ben Johnson was named the male athlete of the week.
