Ashley Schofield set to lead the UOIT dance program
OSHAWA, Ont. - The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) athletic department is proud to announce that Ashley Schofield has been named the new head coach of the varsity dance program.
Schofield joins the Ridgebacks with an extensive background in competitive dance as a choreographer, teacher and adjudicator.
“I am very excited to work with this team of dancers,” said Schofield. “There's a lot of talent and dedication, and I am looking forward to watching them grow as a team this year.”
Having been teaching tap, jazz, lyrical and contemporary classes for the past eight years, Schofield has gained the reputation as one of the up and coming leaders in dance throughout Ontario. She has developed competitive training programs for the junior, intermediate and senior levels that has seen her students go on to compete at the elite and post-secondary level.
She has earned a number of choreography awards including the prestigious Broadway Dance Center AIM Invitational New York City "Best in Show" (highest mark). She also won the choreography award at the 2011 Starcatchers competition in Richmond Hill, Ont., and the Judge's Choice Choreography award at the 2011 Bedazzled competition in Guelph, Ont.
Schofield has an extensive background as a dancer, and has studied RAD ballet, ADAPT Jazz and Tap at the advanced levels. She has trained in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, New Jersey and Las Vegas and performed with an American touring company for three summers in Las Vegas.
“We are excited to have someone with Ashley's experience join the program,” said UOIT athletic director Ken Babcock. “She will be a great addition to the athletic department as the dance program continues to grow on campus.”
