UOIT rowers finish in the top ten at nationals

WELLAND, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s varsity eight crew finished in fourth place in the finals at the Canadian University Rowing Association (CURA) national championship, putting them in the top ten crews in Canada.

This marked the first time that any team from UOIT has taken part in a national championship.

On Saturday, the crew finished their time trial in 7:18; only 38.66 seconds off the first place boat from the University of Victoria.

In the finals on Sunday, the Ridgebacks finished the 2 km race in fourth place with a personal best time of 7:04.3, only five seconds behind McGill University who finished in third.

Meaghan Jones, Allison Ng, Allison Demaiter, Sheila King, Angela Dares, Gillian Beckette, Christie Attwood, Kelsey Sargent and coxie Monica Mak made up the crew.

The CURA national championship was the last regatta of the year for the UOIT Ridgebacks crew.
