Ridgebacks go down to the nationally ranked York Lions
OUA Men’s Soccer: York defeated UOIT 4-1
OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks men’s soccer team lost 4-1 to the number two CIS ranked York Lions on Wednesday night at Vaso’s Field.
The OUA’s top strikers did all of the scoring in the first half as Adrian Pena scored the game’s first goal during the 10th minute. Teammate Alon Badat would score back-to-back goals at the 14th and 30th minute marks to extend the Lions lead to 3-0. Pena and Badat sit first and third in league scoring this year with 12 and 11 goals respectively.
During the 71st minute, York took a 4-0 lead as Jarek Whiteman scored his first goal of the year.
Four minutes later, UOIT would get on the board as freshman striker Andrew Serediuk (Mississauga, Ont.) scored his third goal this season, breaking up the York shutout.
Despite allowing four goals, UOIT goalkeeper Matt Caldaroni (Pickering, Ont.) had a solid game in net managing to stop nine York shots on target. For his efforts, he was named the player of the game.
York regains their lead in the OUA west region as they improve to 8-1-3.
UOIT will have a weekend homestand as they take on McMaster on Saturday (6:30 p.m.) and Brock on Sunday (3:15 p.m.).
