UOIT golfers have a strong showing at their first provincial championship
KINGSTON – Golfers from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) took part in their first OUA provincial championship this week at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club in Kingston, Ont.
Jay Finley (Oshawa, Ont.) was in contention to win UOIT’s first OUA individual medal after day one but fell down the standings to 26th as he shot a 10-over 80 in the final round.
Finley was tied with defending champion Garrett Rank of Waterloo, who ended up winning the championship after shooting a two-under 68.
The back nine, which was a strength for Finley in round one, turned out to be his Achilles heel on Tuesday as he shot a plus nine including an eight on the par 4 eleventh hole.
The Ridgebacks team finished in 14th place, one stroke ahead of the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Other Ridgeback individual results included Brendan Edwards (T43), Joel Neal (76), Daniel Roccasalvo (77) and Evan Culbert (78).
