UOIT’s road trip ends on a sour note
OUA Men’s Hockey – Guelph defeated UOIT 8-1
GUELPH, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks men’s hockey three-game road trip came to an end on Wednesday night as they were defeated by a score of 8-1 against the Guelph Gryphons.
Freshman Jesse Stoughton (Bobcaygeon, Ont.) scored his first goal as a Ridgeback to tie the game at 1-1 midway through the first period. Chris Purves (Scarborough, Ont.) and goaltender Jason Guy (Whitby, Ont.) recorded assists on the play. Stoughton leads the Ridgebacks in scoring this season with three points.
It was all Guelph from that point forward as the Gryphons scored five goals in the second period and two in the third to win by a final score of 8-1.
Mike McInerney and Edward Gale each had three points in the win for Guelph.
The referee was busy in the game as he called 16 infractions for a total of 48 minutes while UOIT continued to struggle on the power play as they went 0-for-6. The Ridgebacks are 2-for-18 on the season with the man advantage.
Guy allowed six goals in two periods, while Jeff Dawson (Bracebridge, Ont.) let in two in the third. The Ridgebacks were outshot 39-28 in the loss.
UOIT will return home on Saturday night as they take on the Brock Badgers (2-2-0). Game time at the Campus Ice Centre is 7:30 p.m.
