UOIT rowers earn a silver medal at the Guelph Invitational
Guelph Invitational
Women’s Junior Varsity 4+ – Silver Medal
GUELPH, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks rowing team took part in the Guelph Invitational over the weekend which was highlighted by a silver medal performance by the women’s junior varsity 4+ crew.
The team of Sheila King, Christie Attwood, Kelsey Sargent, Ashley Tompsett and coxie Shea Brown finished first in their heat qualifying for the finals with a time of 9:07. In a very competitive finals, UOIT finished in second place with a time of 9:21, earning the silver medal.
The junior varsity squad was not the UOIT crew putting up positive results at the invitational, as the Ridgebacks had five other crews take part in the regatta.
The novice women’s 8+ crew had a great race from a technical standpoint finishing 4th in their heat with time of 8:47.
The novice men 8+ crew also fared well against a very competitive junior varsity field finishing in second place in their heat. The team had a time of 7:30, missing out on the finals by just 12 seconds. The novice men’s 4+ also raced a level up in junior varsity, finishing with a competitive time of 8:47.
The junior varsity men’s doubles crews showed continued improvement in their races at Guelph. The team’s finished second and third in their heats with times of 7:53 and 7:59, missing out on the finals by just seven seconds.
The Ridgebacks will head into the OUA Championship with momentum on their side after positive results at the Brock and Guelph Invitationals. The provincial championship is scheduled to take place next weekend at the Henley course in St. Catharines.
