Ridgebacks fall to Waterloo 4-1

OUA Women’s Hockey – Waterloo defeated UOIT 4-1

WATERLOO, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team dropped their second game in as many days on Sunday as the Waterloo Warriors came up with a 4-1 victory.

The Ridgebacks got on the board first as Katie Gordanier (Gananoque, Ont.) scored her first of the season with five minutes left in the opening period.  Jill Morillo and Sarah Worthington, who sit first and second in team scoring, picked up assists on the play.

Waterloo would tie the game up at 1-1 when Kelly MacLean scored her fifth goal of the year just three minutes into the second period. The Warriors would continue to pressure the Ridgebacks net midway through the period as they scored two goals during a three-minute span to take a 3-1 lead.

Despite outshooting Waterloo 11-5 in the third period, it was the Warriors who got on the scoresheet as MacLean scored her sixth of the season to give her team some insurance.

Jessica Larabie (Pickering, Ont.) made 23 saves in net for UOIT while Rebecca Bouwhuis stopped 23 of 24 shots for the win.

UOIT and Waterloo now have matching 2-6-0 records and are tied for ninth place in the OUA standings.

The Ridgebacks will return home next weekend as they take on Toronto (Friday) and Ryerson (Saturday). Saturday’s game against the Rams is OGHA day at the Campus Ice Centre.
