UOIT upsets Laurier to pick up three big points
OUA Men’s Soccer: UOIT defeated Laurier 2-0
OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks men’s soccer team came away with a 2-0 shutout over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Wednesday night to pick up their first conference win of the year.
The Ridgebacks turned to freshman striker Andrew Serediuk (Mississauga, Ont.) who led the team with two goals on the rain soaked pitch.
Taking a 1-0 lead into the second half, Ridgebacks defender Aldo Maiorano (Whitby, Ont.) was awarded a free kick just inside midfield at the 57 minute mark. Maiorano put a bullet off the crossbar, but fortunately for UOIT Serediuk was in great position to score off the rebound for his second goal of the game.
Matt Caldaroni (Pickering, Ont.) recorded his first shutout of the year, stopping all five Laurier shots on target.
The Ridgebacks improve to 1-5-0 on the year while the Golden Hawks slip to 2-3-2.
UOIT’s next two games are on the road as they head to Brock (Saturday) and McMaster (Sunday). Their next home game is scheduled for Thursday, September 29 against the Guelph Gryphons (3-2-0).
